SUV Fatally Strikes Man Sitting on Staten Island Park Bench

In a tragic and unusual incident, a vehicle struck and killed a man who was resting on a park bench on the afternoon of June 24. Two automobiles collided at the intersection of Bay Street and Victory Boulevard, sending one of the vehicles over the curb and onto the sidewalk near Tompkinsville Park.

Bystanders rushed to the aid of the SUV’s driver, who was not injured. It was then that they discovered the victim pinned beneath the vehicle. Emergency responders freed the man and took him to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have charged one of the drivers in the original crash with driving while ability impaired. For more on this story, read here.
